What is Astra Trainer?
Astra Trainer is actually a broader learning app covering everything from psychology to personal finance, but its "Understand Your Dog" module stands on its own as a complete course. It's built around short daily lessons (around five minutes), quizzes, and a knowledge path you work through at your own pace — much like language learning in Duolingo.
How the dog courses work
The module covers 16 courses across three tracks:
- Dog body language — learn to read posture, gaze and tail position, and tell fear from play at a glance.
- Nutrition & behaviour — spot whether a behaviour is down to pain, hunger, or habit.
- Your own reactions — the app's premise is that half of every "dog problem" is really about how we react, and dedicates part of the course to exactly that.
There's also a dedicated Puppy School course for anyone with a new puppy at home.

Our take
Astra Trainer isn't a replacement for a certified dog trainer, but as a companion for better understanding your dog's everyday signals, it's one of the more thoughtfully built digital tools we've come across — especially for new puppy owners.
